Ockbrook & Borrowash 2nds 134-6 beat Rolls Royce 110 all out by 24 runs

Ockbrook batted first and got off to a promising start with Nigel Sulley making 33 and Ashleigh Gough 20. When they were out Lindsey Morgan (28) did his best to maintain the run rate against some tight bowling, notably by Mohammed Malooq who took two wickets and Mushtaq Khan who took 3-28. Andy Fowler produced a brisk 21 off 24 balls just when it was needed and Ockbrook were able to finish on a challenging total in the conditions.

When Rolls Royce batted conditions had deteriorated with dark clouds coming to produce rain in the later stages of the innings. Royces’ hopes were raised by Imran Shah whose 43 was the highest score of the day, a splendid innings in the deteriorating light. However, the introduction of Tom Holmes into the bowling caused a rapid decline in the Rolls Royce batting. He had Imran Shah caught by Neil Fowler and ended with the excellent figures of 4-15 as the innings folded with three overs to spare. Rain started to fall heavily as the players left the field.

Tom Holmes was declared man of the match. The Butterley Cup was presented to Nigel Sulley, the Ockbrook captain, by Councillor David Whitehead, the Deputy Mayor of Derby. Crown Derby trophies were awarded to all the players and officials

Next Friday July 26th the Final of the Jackson Cup will be held at the County Ground when Ockbrook & Borrowash meet Sawley & LE Park. This will give Ockbrook a chance to achieve a rare double.
