Glamorgan Dragons presents a roundup of the week’s news, including news on Alex Wharf’s injury and Michael Kasprowicz’s winning bowling figures in the Pura Cup Final. No Glamorgan player would have been more upset on hearing the tragic news of Ben Hollioake’s death over the weekend than Dean Cosker. Cosker used to share a room with Hollioake at Millfield School, and they were also teammates on a couple of different England tours. Cosker spoke of Hollioake’s raw cricketing ability when interviewed in the Western Mail, and he spoke of the shock when he first heard the news on the TV. Our deepest sympathies go out to the Hollioake family and their friends.

Alex Wharf is expected to make the pre-season tour of South Africa and should be ready by the new season according to team physio Erjan Mustafa. Wharf has just had the latest of a series of operations to try and sort out his recurring ankle problems. Wharf was promising in his 3 Championhsip matches last season, and it would be a great bonus if Glamorgan could start the new season with all of their main strike bowlers fully fit.

Mike Fatkin, the Glamorgan Chief Executive, stated over the weekend that he would like to see the idea of two overseas players per county installed by next season. It came only a day after the club confirmed the signing of Michael Kasprowicz as the club’s overseas player for the coming season. If this new proposal is passed, it would mean that Jimmy Maher could link up with his Queensland teammate Kasprowicz next season at Glamorgan.

Kasprowicz continued his decent form in Australia as he helped his state side Queensland win the Pura Cup Final by a clear margin of 235 runs against Tasmania. Kasprowicz picked up 9 wickets in the match to finish as the leading wicket taker in the Australian domestic competition this season.
