Glamorgan completed a comfortable 10 wicket victory over the Cardiff UCCE side within 2 days of their 3 day match. The win was set up by Mark Wallace, who hit his second century in four days following his maiden first-class century against Derbyshire on Monday. Wallace was the cornerstone of Glamorgan’s innings, hitting 106 from 156 balls in an innings containing 16 boundaries. The innings will not go down on record as his second first-class century, with these games against Cardiff UCCE not being given first-class status. It will however help to boost his confidence, and in this form, he could still play a part in the Benson and Hedges Cup games starting this weekend. The other main contribution today to Glamorgan’s 1st innings total of 353 was Andrew Davies’s decent cameo. He finished unbeaten three short of his half-century when Owen Parkin was dismissed for a duck to wrap up the innings.

The Cardiff batsmen did not offer as much resistance second time round, and were bowled out within 60 overs. Trailing by 137 runs on the first innings, it did not look like Glamorgan would have to bat again as the students were reduced to 87 for 6. The main destroyers early on were Alex Wharf and Robert Croft, each picking up 2 wickets, but it was Andrew Davies who finished off the tail and picked up 3 wickets in the process. Their total of 145 at least made Glamorgan’s openers face a few deliveries, with Keith Newell and Alun Evans knocking off the 9 runs set for victory.
