A team of yougsters, some of them not even second choice outplayed 3rd placed Everton. They scored incredible goals and defended well.
When 57% of Gooners voted on this site that Arsenal Kids could beat Everton I must admit I wasn't convinced.
And yet the youngsters put three past one of the most miserly defences in the Premiership. Chelsea only put one past them this weekend, yet our Kids put in three and could easily have had more.
Yet they couldn't have had a worse start going down to a Gravesen goal after only 8 minutes. The worst had to be feared, surely the Everton team would run riot. But the Kids kept cool, and within only 25 minutes gone Owusu Abeyie equalised. Richard Wright kept out several good chances. But it was comfortably 1-1 at half time. The second half was only 7 minutes old when Lupoli put Arsenal head.
Now Everton were stung into action, pushing forward and employing rough house tactics - but the youngsters refused to be intimidated (blimey they could ugly for Europe that lot). For a while the team went deep, but stood up to the onslaught and began to push forward again. Wright was forced to make some excellent saves, but a brilliant team move from Arsenal involving Van Persie, Flamini and Quincy sees Lupoli steer the ball home from close range in the 85th minute.
That was it game set and match. The team had an average age of 19, without the goalie and Edu it would have been 18!!
Truly Wunderkind.
