Arsene Wenger has told the Arsenal magazine that he thinks he will never use 4-5-1. He doesn't like it, he has never done, it and he is unlikely to use it in the future.

He has occasionally used 4-3-3 in the past. Arsene has won six trophies in seven years so it has been quite successful for him. He believes that it provides the best options for attacking. It allows for the fast and rapid counter-attacks that Arsenal are now famous for, of course it does leave the team open to rapid attack from the opposition. However Arsene believes it is worth the risk as the system allows for much more speed and movement. It also allows for flexibility. At times during a game it might develop into 4-3-3, or at other times it becomes 4-2-3-1.

Arsene argues that the trend towards 4-5-1 means that less goals will be scored, the problem is that people are tempted to copy the success of the moment. But he believes you have to have your own ideas and stick to them. Also the kind of players you have are important. You have to analyse the situation and be open-minded, at at the same time avoiding panic. If you lose two games than some people will call for a change of system, but there is a need for cohesion and stability. At the same time Wenger does not believe that his system is rigid, and his players often switch positions during a game. This allows the quality in players to develop and to bring more creativity into the game. The best system is one that suits the majority of players in the team. That's why it is likely that Arsenal fans will not see Wenger buying a tall target man this summer, as he would not want a change his system for one player.
