A product of Tranmere Rovers’ successful academy, Ashton Taylor made his Rovers first team debut on the final day of the 2008/09 season as a substitute against Scunthorpe United, this following a successful spell at Colwyn Bay early that season.

During the 2009/10 campaign, Taylor, who is capable of playing either at centre-back or in centre-midfield, became a hugely important player for the club as he made 41 appearances, scoring two goals.

A gangly figure, Taylor is strong in the air and positions himself well in defence, whilst he is also a good tackler and a player who positions himself well, both in midfield or at the back.

Taylor’s strong form during the 2009/10 season led to him signing a one-year contract extension during June 2010, keeping him at the club until 2012, whilst he was also  called up to the Wales U-21 international side for the first time.
