Coventry sign Liam Munro and Lee Chapman.

COVENTRY have secured their first new signing of the summer after former Rugby Lions captain Liam Munro agreed a move to the Butts Park Arena.

The 23-year-old openside, who spent last season playing at level five with Ampthill but came through the youth set-up at Webb Ellis Road, is a regular with Warwickshire and was man of the match in the county’s 39-34 win over Eastern Counties last Saturday.

And when he joins up with Phil Maynard’s squad he will be in familiar company given the movement between Lions and the Blue and Whites in recent seasons.

“I have played with half the Coventry boys and know a lot of them from Warwickshire,” the Coventry University graduate said.

“It will be the first time I have played at level three but I am looking forward to a new challenge.

“It’s one of those situations where if you don’t do it you regret not giving it a go. Ideally I’d like to be the first choice No. 7, play as many games as I can and help the team challenge at the top of the table.”

Quote:
Munro is a great signing for Cov will easily replace Alex Nash was surprised when he left Rugby that he didn't step up a level or 2 then. Lee Chapman is a great young fly half, once he can get a bit more consistency to his game from experience/ maturity he will easily be a Championship player. It showed that when he broke his leg in January Nuneaton only won 1 game without him and his injury had a massive effect on us going down.

This from a Nuns fan on the Rolling Maul site.
Encouraging...

Another Nuneaton player who would be a must-have signing is Elliot Brown.

And I can't see you being any less pleased with what you see of Liam Munro. As near a perfect replacement (tho very different in some ways of course) for Alex Nash as you could hope for.
