Yorkshire v Middlesex Championship Review Day 3

Yorkshire's hopes of First Division survival were kept alive by two fledgling leg-spinners - Rashid (18) and Lawson (20). Their achievement overshadowed a century by Middlesex captain, Ben Hutton, on his return from shingles, and five wickets from Chris Silverwood against his former county. Lawson claimed a career-best 6-88, snaring four of his victims with googlies. Rashid, who took six wickets on his debut against Warwickshire at Scarborough six weeks ago, bowled with equal skill and maturity.

Hutton held Middlesex together with an innings that his grandfather Sir Leonard, who made 13 centuries at Scarborough, would have been proud of.

Silverwood's morning burst of four for 20 suggested that Yorkshire may have blundered when they released him last winter. He has taken 57 wickets this season, two short of his career-best, including 13 in three innings against Yorkshire, who are still paying part of his wages as settlement of his contract.
