Lehmann Elected ACC President

DARREN Lehmann has replaced Ian Healy as the Australian Cricketers' Association president. "It's a great honour my peers have entrusted me with" Lehmann said. "My role is that of caretaker of the voice of all past and present first-class cricketers... and I will work to ensure our voice is heard in addition to working with Cricket Australia to better the game of cricket."

Lehmann, 36, with more than 19 years' first-class experience, has long been regarded as one of Australian cricket's most astute judges. He has promised to campaign for a better deal for families, to tackle player burnout and to encourage players to develop a life beyond the boundary ropes. He has been concerned about the need to get the work / life balance right in an exhausting international cricket schedule. "It's going to be a case of how much the players should play . . . time away from families and burnout," Lehmann said. "I don't think we will ever see a 15 or 20-year international cricketer with the amount they play now. That's the sad thing because the demand is there as they have to fulfil so many commitments. It is something we are very much aware of as an organisation." Lehmann wants young players to get out of their comfort zone and pursue other interests outside of the game instead of doing "nothing else".
