This is the player page of Michael Vaughan, Yorkshire's classy middle order batsman and England captain. As Yorkshire fans we probably won't see a lot of Vaughny in 2007, but we all wish him well...

Whether it's through injury or England we're unlikely to see a lot of Vaughny in 2007, but we wish him every success.

On September 12, 2005 a Yorkshire man became the first England captain to lift the Ashes urn for 18 years. Michael Vaughan has proved himself as a more than capable international skipper, but has never forgotten his Yorkshire roots. He is one of the rare sportsmen who. at least outwardly, reacts the same to defeat as victory. Do not be deceived - defeat hurts and Vaughny is a winner.

Despite being born in Lancashire he quickly realised which side of the Pennines his future lay with and is a product of the Yorkshire academy. 

Vaughan's debut for England saw him walk to the wicket with the score a preilous 2-4 against South Africa on 1999-2000. He scored 900 runs in seven Tests against Sri Lanka and India in 2002 and went on to put the Aussies to the sword in 2002-2003 where he became the first visiting batsman for 32 years to top 600 runs.

Vaughan replaced Nasser Hussain as England's one-day captain in 2003 and then as Test captain shortly afterwards. Vaughan is famous for his man-management skills and his desire to treat every player as an individual with useful ideas. A series of impressive performances culminated in 2005 when England regained the Ashes after one of the most thrilling series of all time against Australia. Many pundits saw Vaughan's astute captaincy as the difference between the two sides.

In recent times a knew injury and latterly a hamstring tear has prevented Vaughan from playing. He has recently been chosen to lead his country to the World Cup in the caribbean in March/April 2007
