The fact that Yorkshire could leave out an in from Craig White from the game v Hampshire demonstrates the depth that there is to Yorkshire's Squad. When Vaughan is available Yorkshire now have four top class openers. As well those currently first choice Vaughan or White and Sayers, Matthew Wood is back in form in the Second X1. Wood is capable of 1,000 runs a season and despite a poor 2005, he has been thumping the ball all over the place in the seconds and looks back to somewhere near his best.

In the middle order Andrew Gale proved himself to be a useful player last season, he had already done well when he played against Durham and like Wood is scoring plenty of runs in the seconds. Adam Lyth, a successful tourist with the England Under 19's during the winter is another scoring runs and waiting for a chance.

Richard Pyrah and Chris Gilbert have had opportunities in the Friends Provident and shown they are up to the task to fill in a middle order/allround role.

The keepers spot was thought to be Yorkshire's weakest before the start of the season. Gerald Brophy is making it his this year but deputy Simon Guy appears to be bang in form. He has made plenty of runs in the Seconds and did a great job as keeper when taking over from Brophy in the game against Durham.

On the bowling front Shahzad looked useful when coming in for Gillespie against Durham, we have yet to see leg spinner Mark Lawson who performed so well last year. James Lee and Steve Patterson have put in some good spells in the Second Team.

Should losses of form and injuries hit the first team, there are plenty waiting in the wings who can come in, deputise adequately and help maintain what is becoming a Championship challenge.
