Sri Lanka - Matt and Keith show!

4 for 36

Wasn't there but a one day win against the tourists was just what was needed and it was good to see Matt Bulbeck coming back after Wednesday's disappointing show Somerset beat Sri Lanka by 63 runs with excellent bowling performances from Matt Bulbeck - 10/0/36/4 and especially from Keith Dutch 10/1/30/4 against a strong batting line-up for the tourists.

This was a full on game, unusual in tourist games in the past, with only Johnson and Cox rested by the home side and as such it hopefully shows an upsurge in form from the boys. A more elaborate report is hopefully on its way from an eye witness. If you want to make your comments on the game then please send them in!

Ten years ago Sri Lanka won the world cup and are thought of as one of the best one-day sides in the world today. Until a couple of weeks ago, bar the Yorkshire County Board, Somerset had yet to win a one-day game this season. A recipe for a one sided competition maybe, but Somerset served up a performance to (almost) blow away the Brazilian blues.

Mindful maybe of criticism of last years "Somerstan" team put out last year against the Aussies this was pretty much a first-choice team, Trescothick and the injured Caddick missing of course, as was Cox who hasn't played since the Hampshire game last week and Johnson, just back from injury but chosen today to reprise his winter role for England as the drinks waiter. Sri Lanka were playing the team members who have joined the tour party for the one-day triangulat tournament with England and India which starts on Thursday but there were not many of their first choice left out - no Muralitheran, who is to return home for treatment on the injured shoulder and plays no further part in the tour, nor no Marvan Attapattu who was hit on the hand by Flintoff in the Old Trafford test though apparently just bad bruises, no fractures, so he may be fit to play in the series.
