No play was possible on day 3 of the Essex vs Gloucestershire Frizzell County Championship Division 2 match at Chelmsford today, meaning a draw now looks the only result possible with a day to go.

Essex vs Gloucestershire
Day 3 Report:
Comp: CC2, Venue: Chelmsford, Date: Weds 24-Sat 27 April, 2002.
STATE OF PLAY: END OF DAY 3 - ESSEX ARE 74 RUNS BEHIND WITH 6 WICKETS LEFT ON 1ST INNS.
Heavy overnight and early morning rain as forecast meant no play was possible before lunch at Chelmsford. However, the rain cleared for a while and after an inspection, play was due to start at 3:00pm.

But the heaven's opened again and this time worse than before and although it stopped and cleared up, the damage had been done and after another inspection at 4:00pm, play was abandoned for the day.

This means that no result is likely on day 4 tomorrow, the last of the match and so a draw is the only possible outcome. The forecast for tomorrow isn't great either, with light rain predicted, so another washout is on the cards.

Essex are currently 74 behind with 6 wickets left at 305-4 in their 1st inns in reply to Gloucs 1st inns total of 379.
