Harmison takes first blood in Windies test

Steve Harmison has taken the first wicket of the West Indies series in his opening spell. After the disappointment for Durham supporters that Paul Collingwood would not be playing in the first test this was very welcome news. Harmison shared the new ball with Matthew Hoggard. With just 17 runs on the board Harmison struck when he surprise Gayle for pace and caused him to play on with his scoure on 5. With just 5 more runs added Hoggard removed the Windies number 3 Sarwan for a duck.

Harmison recorded figures of 1 for 17 from his opening spell of 7 overs before being replaced by Andrew Flintoff.

Yesterday, it was confirmed that Mark Butcher had recovered from his sprained ankle and would be able to take part in the first test. This ended hopes that this test would see two Durham players in the England team for the first time.
