Gavin Hamilton has announced that he will retire from County Cricket at the end of the season. Hamilton joined Durham County Cricket Club for the 2004 season but only played in six national league games this season. Hamilton will play for Scotland next year. Gavin Hamilton joined Durham from Yorkshire at the beginning of last season after he had suffered from the yips and had not bowled for almost two years.

This season 31-year-old Hamilton played in six National League games, scoring 93 runs at an average of just 18. He spent part of the summer on loan to Scotland and was part of the Scotland squad that won the ICC Trophy in Ireland.

The ICC Trophy victory meant that Scotland will play in the ICC Cricket World Cup in the West Indies in 2007, something that Gavin will be keen to be part of.

Martyn Moxon who was responsible for giving Gavin his second chance at Durham has praised his contributions on and off the field as 'extremely valuable'.
