Having run out of Puff, what with having his question (Mostly) blasted away, The naughty step has been swept, and Old Pete's conundrums are bolstered by some questions from Buckinghamshire - both sets with a sports connection
Something sporty this time - as usual identify and explain.etc.
(1) What
have white , Green , Gold ,and Black
done that Red, blue and Green have not.
(2) Why
would a schoolboys most feared punishment
remind you of an achievement in Swansea .
(3) A classy striker of the ball in his day his Liverpool role allowed him to join his peers.
(4) Grown in sand so it would seem he captured a gilde chalice .
(5) What finally moved after 126 years ?
(6) What do the following have in common Newport , Bath , Gloucester , Worcester ,
Five Saints players of the past.
Hint: There are no anagrams held herein.
(7) Televisually being unable to row meant he was finished as a painter.
(8) He hunted for somewhere to spend a cent at the partial stag party.
(9) On Boxing Day he favoured granite, relatively speaking.

Totally overlooked this it being a sticky. As i'm the bloke from 'Wovertio' i'll have a stab at the first ones.

Newport, Bath, Gloucester and Worcester all have top-flight rugby teams but don't have league football teams (I don't think Newport even has a team in the Welsh Premier).
I think Newport County, who were once a league team up until the 60s/70s?, play in the upper reaches of the English non league ranks.
Essentially Emma is correct - all have Rugby teams of varying degrees of repute but do not have a football league team. Newport County left the old Third Division South many years ago . I could also have put up Llanelli -

Was there ever a better fixture than Cardiff City v Newport County... such rich memories from my youth.. Bluebirds, Bluebirds..
Seems we are both way out with the year Pete, Newport County didn't leave the League proper till 1988. And they now play in one of the regional divs of the Conference by coincidence the same division as Worcester and Bath and further to that they are called the Exiles because when they lost their Newport hom they played in Gloucestershire.

Chris interestingly when people go on about the town colur in Norfampton both Newport County and Newport RFC played in Black and amber ( hoops in the case of the rugby team )
Pete - strangely I recently got a Saints programme from a game at Newport and it "welcomed the team in black and red", this must have been an early away kit.

Bonso gets it - actually the point is he was firstly Bishop of Stepney which wasnt one with a seat in the Lords - Liverpool was one of the twelve. Nowadays i think they havea rota - and Bishops are not of course Lords temporal - in many ways they were the original life peers.
