Newport, Bath, Gloucester and Worcester all have top-flight rugby teams but don't have league football teams (I don't think Newport even has a team in the Welsh Premier).
Essentially Emma is correct - all have Rugby teams of varying degrees of repute but do not have a football league team. Newport County left the old Third Division South many years ago . I could also have put up Llanelli -
as you may have noticed i cant count - now - there is one of mine left.
still Mr Gleadel will keep you busy until Ive thought up some more. - arent they just awful.
Seems we are both way out with the year Pete, Newport County didn't leave the League proper till 1988. And they now play in one of the regional divs of the Conference by coincidence the same division as Worcester and Bath and further to that they are called the Exiles because when they lost their Newport hom they played in Gloucestershire.
Who needs Stephen Fry?
Chris interestingly when people go on about the town colur in Norfampton both Newport County and Newport RFC played in Black and amber ( hoops in the case of the rugby team )
Pete - strangely I recently got a Saints programme from a game at Newport and it "welcomed the team in black and red", this must have been an early away kit.
I'm still trying to work out which ex-Liverpool player got a lordship.
Bonso gets it - actually the point is he was firstly Bishop of Stepney which wasnt one with a seat in the Lords - Liverpool was one of the twelve. Nowadays i think they havea rota - and Bishops are not of course Lords temporal - in many ways they were the original life peers.
I shall now retire to contemplate questions on realy obscure subjects .
ps As you're waiting for Mont Ventoux, I should let you know that team 'holding on,' reached 1540 miles by Saturday and at this rate of progress will embarrassingly arrive on the champs elysees by about Wednesday
No alcohol for January. I'm a dryathlete in aid of cancer research.
You cannot row if you are oarless or in other words up a creek without a paddle. Televisually there is only one creek that fits, Dawsons Creek.
... have you taken to funny substances this summer?... This clue makes about as much sense as 3-2-1 ( guess the younger posters wont know about that! ) .. and so, yes, you are up a Creek without a paddle and if you havent got a paddle you have probbably lost it - where did you lose the paddle? - well, you probably binned it by mistake - yes, you have discovered Dusty Bin... well done..
