Here are player profiles of some of the younger Surrey players. These include, Simon King, Arun Harinath, Laurie Evans, Matt Spriegel and Gary Wilson.
Simon King

After making his second XI debut in only 2005 and taking 17 wickets, the off-spinner has made significant progress. King had a successful 2006 season in the Surrey second XI, taking 30 wickets at an average of 27. His talent has been recognised by the ECB as he was selected for their spin match in 2006 where he received coaching from Ashley Giles. He was also selected to attend a trail for the England under-19 side at Loughborough Cricket Club in May 2006. He also spent the 2005 pre-season with the first team squad in Mumbai. In 2006 he graduated from the Surrey Academy and was awarded a contact with the senior team for the 2007.

Arun Harinath

A top order batsman who has been involved with Surrey since the age of nine; he graduated from the Surrey Academy in 2006 and was awarded a contract with the senior team for the 2007. Making his second XI debut in 2003, Harinath showed his full potential in 2006 by completing his maiden second XI century against Nottinghamshire with 157. He finished the season with an impressive average of just below 40 and featured in all but two of Surrey’s matches in the Championship.
In 2005 he was selected in ECB Development of Excellence XI squad to play against Sri Lanka under 19’s. In the winter of 2005/06 he travelled to Australia to play Sydney Grade Cricket for Randwick/Petersham. His younger brother Muhunthan also plays for the Surrey Academy.

Laurie Evans

In 2004 he underwent a shoulder operation, but since then has come of age in the Surrey Academy and in the second XI. Making his second XI debut in 2005, Laure showed his potential in 2006. Although only staring six games, he hit 139 and 72 in the first game of the season against Essex. He has enjoyed a successful tour to South Africa with the Surrey Academy in the winter of 2006 with some impressive performances. He has captained Surrey at under 17 level and led them to the national final in 2005. In 2006 he graduated from the Surrey Academy and was awarded a contract with the senior team for the 2007.

Matt Spriegel

After graduating from the 2006 Academy, the left hander was awarded a professional contract for the 2007 season. An all-rounder, Spriegel made his second X1 debut in 2004. In 2006 he showed potential in the second team, hitting 762 runs at an average of 38 in 13 matches. This included his maiden second XI century. Spriegel also took 16 wickets at an average of 22 with his off-spin bowling. In 2006 he gradated from the Surrey Academy and was awarded a contract with the senior team for the 2007 season. He has also enjoyed successful Academy tours to Australia and South Africa.

Gary Wilson

A former MCC young cricketer, the Irish wicketkeeper signed for Surrey in 2005 as cover for John Batty. In 2005 he featured in eight Second X1 matches hitting a highest score of 56. He looked impressive behind the stumps, claming 32 dismissals which included 26 catches and six stumpings. He has also featured in the under 19’s World Cup in 2004 and 2006 has played in the ICC Intercontinental Cup in 2005 and 2006. He has also featured for Ireland A. In 2006 he played in the C and G trophy against Somerset, but failed to capitalise on this opportunity by only making one.
