Looking from the wrong en
v Warwickshire FPT @ Taunton Thursday 14 May 2009
This match seems to be going the way we mostly expected it to go. The weathemen were so convinced that there was going to be rain blanketing the country they confidently predicted rain across the whole island for the whole day. Driving to Devon this morning I wasn't as sure but driving backl this afternoon the grey drizzle convinced me that this was a waste of time....but the smell of pork drove me on.
I sit looking at a full set of covers with sruface water all over them and a scoreboard saying we had 22 overs of a Somerset innnings after the Bears put us in.
The side was;
Trescothick, Suppiah, Hildreth, Langer, de Bruyn, Trego, Banks, Gazzard, Phillips, Thomas, Turner
Carl Gazzard gets a rare first team run out due to Craig Kieswetter standing too near his captain and picking up his bug from Monday and being unwell. he rest is pretty much as expected. Good to see Turner back fighting fit - especially as Steffan Jones is back in the camp and keen to show that he is available. He seemes very positive, partly because the guys at Kent have expressed their high regard for him and his ability to be a cog in any first class cricketing wheel.
Batting first we made a decent start despite losing Arul for 16 at 57 to Rankin. Trescothick and Hildreth moved the score to 135 by the start of the 23rd with the VC on 84. Unfortunately Hildreth went just before the rain came and Zander has joined the big man at the crease.
Should this end as a 10 over slog in the dimpsy half light of a spring afternoon I am confidently told that the Bears would need 90 off the 60 balls. More rain seems a better end ot the game than that I have to say.
More if there is any.....
