Surrey are in a good position in their county championship match against Hampshire at the Rose ball. Stand in Captain Ian Ward made 112 and Nadeem Shahid made 82. Surrey won the toss and decided bat, but they were soon when youngster Scott Newman was caught by Adams off Schofield for 4, Surrey were 8 for 1. Ward and Shahid then put on a massive stand off 197 before Shahid was caught by Udal off Schofield for 82. Ward went on to make his fifth of the year before he was run out for 112. Graham Thorpe made a disappointing return for Surrey after his break from cricket. He only made 19 when he was bowled by Shun Udal. But Ali Brown went on to make 59 not out as Surrey closed on 248 for 8.
