Surrey bowled Sussex out for 429 with Chris Adams making 107 and Richard Montgomerie scoring 90. In the morning session of day two, Surrey did take the last six Sussex wickets for 67 runs but Sussex still managed to claim full batting points with 429 all out. For Surrey James Ormond continued his good form with the ball by claming four wickets.
Sussex then reduced Surrey to 32 for 2. Wickets continued to tumble for the lions and at 126 for 6 Surrey were in all sorts of trouble and a score of 270 to avoid the follow on looked unlikely. At the close of play Ramprakash was on 74 not out and Bicknell was 42 not out.
