Surrey defeated by Kent

Surrey were beaten by 4 wickets in a thrilling last day at Guildford. Surrey set Kent a target of 231 from 35 overs as Surrey were bowled out for 350. Justin Kemp saw Kent home with an unbeaten 47 from 37 balls.

Resuming on 173 for 2, with Ramprakash and Thorpe at the crease the game looked to be heading for a draw. Ramparaksh and Thorpe had taken the score to 240 for 2 and added a partnership of 98 when Thorpe was dismissed for 47 as he was caught by Stevens with Van Jaarsveld the bowler. Surrey then collapsed to 350 all out with Ramprakash top scoring with 62.

This set Kent a target of 231 from 35 overs. Fulton and Key put on 83 for the first wicket as they looked for quick runs. When Fulton fell to Salisbury for 31, Key followed soon for 47. Van Jaarsveld, 25 helped Kent reach 140 for 5 and the game was looking close as Kent required 90 to win from 10 overs. Kemp and O’Brien then saw Kent home as the Surrey bowlers failed to control the run rate. Kemp hit 47 from just 37 balls while O’Brien made 23 from 18. Surrey were also docked half a point for a slow over rate.
