Surrey were set 195 to win after Ed Giddins had taken 4 wickets and Sussex captain Chris Adams hit 60. Surrey reached their target with 5.4 overs to spare and 6 wickets remaining.

Sussex won the toss and decided to bat. They were soon on the back foot as Ed Giddins removed Richard Montgomerie and Murrey Goodwin early on to leave the sharks 13 for 2. Captain Chris Adams and Tony Cottey took the score to 49 when Ed Giddins bowled Cottey for 14. Then next ball Matt Prior was also bowled by Giddins. This left Sussex 49 for 4. Things did not get much better when Saqlain Musthag caught Martin Jenkins off the bowling of Tim Murtagh for 9. Chris was still there and looking strong but when he was caught by Adam Hollioake off Alex Tudor Sussex were 110 for 7. Kevin Innes and Mark Davis then pushed the score to 194 for 7. Innes scored 50 not out and Davis hit 27 not out. This looked like a good score as the sharks were 71 for 5 and batting second under floodlights is difficult.

The Surrey reply did not start well. Ali Brown got a golden duck when he was caught by shark’s captain Chris Adams off the bowling off James Kirtley. Ian Ward was next to for on 9 when he was trapped LBW to Kirtley. Surrey were in trouble at 9 for 2. Rikki Clarke then scored 12 but when he fell LBW to Martin Jenkins Surrey were 25 for 3 and defeat was looming. But a massive stand of 131 between inform Mark Ramprakash and Nadeem Shahid took the game away from Sussex. When Ramprakash was caught by Kirtley off the bowling off Billy Taylor Surrey needed just 39-gor victory. Adam Hollioake then smashed 26 and hit the winning runs, but the hero for the lions was Nadeem Shahid who scored 74 not out and took the gold award.
