Surrey storm into finals day

Surrey stormed into the finals day of the twenty20 cup for the fouth sucessive year after an emphatic 80 run win over Gloucestershire at Nevil Road. Mark Ramprakash hit 85, while Nayan Doshi took four wickets as Surrey completed an easy win.

The Brown caps had a poor start as Brown fell early on. Benning and Ramprakash added 56. Benning fell for 29 when he was caught by Hardinges with Gidman taking the wicket. Butcher was next to go for five as Surrey reached 80 for three. Ramprakash and Clarke then took the game away from Gloucestershire as they added a stand of 139 in 12 overs. Clarke made 79 from 42 balls, although he was dropped twice. Ramprakash top scored with 85 from just 50 balls. Surrey reached 224 for 5, their hugest ever twenty20 score.

Gloucestershire lost Spearman early for 13. Hardinges was next to go as he was run out for 5. Anil Kumble took his first ever wicket in the competition as he took the crucial wicket of Harvey for 23. When Marshall became the second run out victim of the innings, Gloucestershire were 81 for five. Nayan Doshi then destroyed the lower order as he took for four wickets as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 144. This was the third time he has taken four wickets in the competition this season.
