Blazing Brown Caps

Surrey beat Yorkshire by 75 runs at the in the pro40 Division Two at the Brit Oval. Mark Ramprakash hit 106 not out as Surrey reached 277. Yorkshire could only make 202 for 9, with Mo Akram and Nayan Doshi both picking up three wickets.

Butcher won the toss and decided to bat. Surrey had a good start with Brown making a rapid 21 before falling to a miscued pull shot off Deon Kruis. Ramprakash and Newman continued the good work and took the score to past 100 from just 18 overs. Newman fell for 34 when he was bowled by teenage leg-spinner by Adil Rashid. Butcher then joined Ramprakash and they added 85. Butcher was dismissed for 40 as Rashid picked up his second wicket. Ramprakash continued to dominate the bowling and reached his century from just 96 balls. Azhar Mahmood hit a blistering 42 from just 23 balls, including one four and four sixes. He was dismissed before the end of the innings but Batty hit 24 not out, while Ramprakash was unbeaten on 106 as Surrey reached 277 for 4 from 40 overs.

Azhar Mahmood gave Surrey the perfect start as he dismissed Anthony McGrath for a golden duck. Akram took the wicket of White in the next over and also dismissed Lumb to leave Yorkshire 15 for three. Lehmann and Gale started a recovery with a partnership of 58. Gale fell for 17, to Akram with Azhar Mahmood taking a brilliant catch at wide first slip.

Lehmann and Brophy took the score past 100, but Brophy was adjudged leg before wicket to Doshi for 21, to leave the Tykes 112 for six. After Dawson fell for four, Chris Schofield, making his Surrey debut, clamed his first wicket as Thonicroft went for a was caught in the deep attempting a six by Mo Akram, Adil Rashid impressed with 28, and Kruis hit 31 not out, but this was not enough as Yorkshire fell 75 runs short.
