Surrey are in a very strong position after three days of their county championship match against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl. Captain Ian Ward hit his second hundred of the match with 156 and Graham also hit a century. Surrey closed the day on 422 for 8 with a lead of 513. Surrey started the day with their second innings. Scott Newman soon fell lbw to Schofield for 15. Surrey were 27 for 1. Nadeem Shahid then joined Ward at the crease. They then put on 66 for the third wicket. Shahid fell for 20 when he was caught behind off Mascarenhas with the score on 93. Graham then came out to join Ward at the crease. They then put on a massive 239 for the third wicket. Thorpe, who was returning from a break from cricket hit 143 to justify his call up to the ashes squad. Ward scored 156 to continue his excellent form with the bat. This was his second hundred of the game and his third in a row. This made him the first Surrey player to do this since John Edrich in 1965. Surrey closed the day on 422 for 8 with a lead off 513.
