Martin Bicknell took five wickets as Surrey beat Hampshire by 123 runs at the Rose Bowl. Nic Pothas scored 99 and Dimitri Mascarenhas hit 67 for Hampshire but their efforts were in vain. Surrey decided to declare on their overnight score of 422 for 8. This meant Hampshire needed 514 runs to win. Martin Bicknell then ripped through Hampshire by taking four early wickets. This left Hampshire 65 for 4. Neil Johnson and John Francis then put on 76 for the fifth wicket before Francis fell lbw to Bicknell for 28. This gave Bicknell five wickets in the innings. This left Hampshire 141 for 5. Hampshire did not give up and wicket keeper Nic Pothas scored 99 and Dimitri Mascarenhas hit 67 which included nine fours and three sixes. But when James Tomlinson was caught by Scott Newman off Ian Salisbury for 2 Hampshire were all out for 390 and Surrey had won by 123 runs.
