Mark Butcher hit his maiden limited overs hundred as Surrey beat Yorkshire by 7 wickets. Butcher shared in a stand of 158 with Mark Ramprakash who scored 60 not out. Yorkshire won the toss and decided to bat. But first ball in to the game Matt Wood was caught by Graham Thorpe of Bicknell for naught. Indian batsmen Yuvraj Singh departed shortly after for 25 when he was caught behind of Ormond for 25. Fleming and Lumb then put on 65 for the third wicket. Lumb departed for 29 when he was trapped leg before wicket to Salisbury. Craig White quickly followed for 11 when he was bowled by Salisbury. Hollioake then dropped Richard Blakey on 1 but next ball Blakey was caught by Ramprakash off Saqlain Mushtaq for 2. Brensan quickly followed for 4 when he was caught by Holliokae off Salisbury. Yorkshire were struggling at 147 for 6. They had been 106 for 2. With the score on 175 Andy Gary became seventh out when he was stumped by Batty off Salisbury for 12. Ryan Sidebottom then came out and looked in good touch by hitting some well-timed shots. But when he was on 13 he hit the ball up in the air and he was caught by Thorpe with Adam Hollioake the bowler. Just three runs later New Zealand opening batsman Matt Fleming departed for an excellent 90. Fleming had held the innings together from the start and deserved a century. In his innings Fleming hit 6 fours and one six of Ian Salisbury’s first ball of the game. Steve Kirby then fell next ball lbw to Hollioake. Yorkshire were all out for 199. At one stage they were 106 for 2. They had lost 8 wickets for 93 runs. For Surrey Saqlain Mushtaq and Adam Hollioake both took two wickets and Ian Salisbury took 3 wickets.

Surrey needed only 200 runs to win but in the second over big hitter Ali Brown was caught behind off Kirby for 2. With the score on 36 for Mark Butcher survived a huge LBW appeal form Sidebottom. It seemed to be Butcher’s day. He already had 20 runs all in four’s. Butcher continued to play some excellent shots, which were manly square cuts. He then reached his 50 off only 51 balls with nine fours. Butcher continued to play his shots and he reached his maiden limited overs hundred off only 101 balls with 14 fours. Butcher put on 158 for the second wicket with Mark Ramprakash. Rampraksh started his innings slowly but after he started there was no stopping him as usual. He played some fine shots in his innings of 60 not out. His 50 came up of 84 balls with 6 fours. Rampraksh was slightly hampered by a knee injury, which he picked up while bowling. His injury was not helped when Tim Bresnan through the ball at Ramprakash’s leg in an attempt to run him out. Ramprakash was not happy with this and he put out his arms at Bresnan. When Butcher was finally dismissed for 104 Surrey needed just 34 runs for victory. Adam Hollioake then came to the crease and smashed 20 runs. This included a huge six of spinner Andy Gary. Surrey needed just 4 runs for victory when Hollioake went for another big hit. This time it did not work and Michael Lumb caught him right on the boundary. But as Lumb caught the ball his foot seemed to touch the boundary rope. This means that Holliokae should have been given six runs. But Lumb clamed he had caught the ball and Holliokae departed. Lumb was then boo-ed as he went back to his fielding place. However his did not matter as Mark Ramprakash hit the winning runs to give Surrey a suburb seven wicket victory.
