Top clash ends in draw

The top of the table clash between Sussex and Surrey at Hove ended as a draw. Sussex made 302 for 5 declared with Tim Amborse scoring 76 not out and Matt making an unbeaten 50. They then set Surrey 377 runs to win in just 34 overs. The top of the table clash between Sussex and Surrey at Hove ended as a draw. Sussex began the day on 69 for 2. Surrey then managed take two wickets to leave the sharks 104 for 4. But an unbeaten stand off 196 between Tim Ambrose (76 not out) and Matt Prior (50 not out) helped Sussex to 302 for 5. Sussex captain Chris Adams then finally decided to declare. He had set Surrey an impossible target off 377 runs to win of just 34 overs. Surrey could only mange 114 for 1 with Ian Ward the man out lbw to Davis for 33. John Batty continued his excellent form with 65 not out. The game was called a draw with just 26 overs being bowled in the Surrey innings. Surrey now lead Sussex by just 4 points at the top of the county championship table with boot teams having to play 5 more games.
