Day 1

Surrey won the toss and decided to bat but soon they were in trouble at 41 for 2 as both openers were dismissed for 17. Mark Ramrakash and Graham Thorpe then came to the crease and both looked in fine form. They both completed half centuries and they looked set for big scores. Ramprakash then completed another fine century with a boundary. But Thorpe was unable to reach his century as he fell for a superb 99 when he was caught behind by Read off Notts captain Chris Cairns. However Thorpe reminded the England selectors of his talent and that he is ready to receive and England recall. Rikki Clarke then hit a brisk 36 and Ali Brown chipped in with a useful 32. When he was out the lions were 392 for 6. Adam Hollioake then fell for 0 when he was caught behind off
Franks. Mahmood (25) and Bicknelll (9) also fell before the end of the day. At the close Surrey were 488 for 8 with Ramprakash not out on 191 and Salisbury unbeaten on 13. Ramprakash is now on course for another 200. His innings has included 2 sixes and 32 fours and this is his forth hundred in six innings.
