Lions in strong position

Surrey are in a strong position after day two of their county championship match against Lancashire at Old Trafford. Ali Brown hit 155 as Surrey made 396. However Lancashire could only reply with 278, with Nayan Doshi claming 5 wickets.

After slipping to 58 for 5 on day one Ali Brown hit an excellent 144 not out to guide the lions out of trouble. He received useful support from skipper John Batty 36 and Tim Murtagh 63 not out. At the close of play on day one Surrey were 346 for 7. Lancashire came out strong on day two and bowled Surrey out for 369 with Murtagh only adding 2 to his overnight score. However Ali Brown was able to complete his 150 but his innings came to an end when he fell to Sajid Mahmood, who claimed four wickets.

Surrey then reduced Lancashire to 28 for 2. Mal Loye and Stewart Law then added 82 before Nayan Doshi claimed three wickets to leave Lancashire struggling at 112 for 5. However Chris Schofield and Glenn Chapple added 114 to take the score to 226. Chapple fell for 67 when he was caught behind off Bicknell. When Schofield was stumped for 65 with Doshi the bowler Lancashire were 258 for 8. Lancashire managed to reach 278 all out with Nayan Doshi claming career best figures of 5 for 125 and John Batty claming 6 dismissals.

At the close of play Surrey were 8 for no wicket, with a lead of 99 runs.
