Surrey are still waiting for their first victory in the tote sport league after a third consecutive defeat, this time at the hands of Somerset by 99 runs on the D/L method. Sanath Jayasuriya, Markus Trescothick and Keith Parsons all hit half centuries as the sabers notched by a huge total of 325.

After winning the toss and deciding to bowl Surrey made the perfect start by claiming an early wicket as Burns fell to Sampson for 2. However Trescothick and Jayasuriya added 96 to leave the sabers 104 for 2, with Trescothick making 52 before falling to Doshi. Jayasuriya continued and was finally dismissed for 62 when he became Doshi’s second victim. John France, Ian Blackwell and James Hildreth all gave useful support to Keith Parson, who top scored with 85.

The lions reply did not start well and lost Newman, Clinton and Hodd early on to leave them trouble at 73 for 3. John Batty and Ali Brown then added 66 to steady the innings fro Surrey. However when on 41 Batty fell to Andrew. The lions then collapsed from 139 for 4 to 193 for 7, with Brown making a The only meaningful score of 65. This collapse included captain Mark Ramprakash who made 11 at number 7. James Ormond scored a useful 32 to delay the inevitable. 9. Doshi and managed to survive to the end by taking the score to 225 for 9.
