Welcome to the Brit Oval where the Totesport League Division 2 match is taking place between the Surrey Lions and the Durham Dynamos, who won the toss and elected to field. The match was reduced to 38 overs per side due to rain delaying the start of play. The Dynamos made early inroads into the Surrey innings as Scott Newman was clean bowled by Neil Killeen. Mark Ramprakash failed to get off the mark and lasted an over before being caught behind. Captain Jon Batty then departed soon after, going also for a duck, edging to slip. The terrible start to the innings continued when Ali Brown was bowled by Neil Killeen. That left the Lions on 26-4 in big trouble. But then opener James Benning and Rikki Calrke made a superb 129 innings-saving partnership. Benning took the lead role, but only scored 5 boundaries in his 66 and one six. Clarke also found boundaries hard to come by, and scored 4 of them. Clarke went first, when he drived straight to Gareth Breese's hands, a poor shot. Bennin stuck around a bit longer but inevitably was bowled by Breese. Salisbury's efforts to up the run rate were wasted whe n a weak shot ended up at slip. Tail enders Murtagh and Sampson provided an excellent backbone to the innings, playing some fine, quick shots to finish Surrey in a very good position. Sampson smacked 12 runs off 8 balls while Murtagh clubbed 31 off 22, scoring 3 fours and a six. Surrey's innings came to an end on 219-7. Tim Murtagh made a fine start to the Surrey bowling, with a shock early breakthrough, trapping new signing Nathan Astle for a duck. At the end of the match, this summary will be updated.
