Richard Clinton scored 84 as Surrey reached 214 for 4 on a rain affected day one against Warwickshire at Whitgift School. Clinton shared in a stand of 112 with Mark Ramprakash, who made 39. Surrey won the toss and decided to bat, but in from opener Scott Newman fell early on for 4, as he was caught behind, with Streak the bowler. Ramprakash, then joined Clinton at the crease and they both looked in good touch. However, rain before lunch meant that there partnership was broken up. When play did resume, they continue were they left off, and Clinton brought up his half century with a three. His innings had contained 10 fours. With the score on 120 Ramprakash was next to go as he was bowled by Carer. Clinton was still going strong and looked on course for his second consecutive century. However when on 84 he fell to Dougie Brown, with Louden taking the catch. Crake was next to go as he top edged a pull shot from Tahir and he was caught by Frost. Further rain before tea, halted progress which Batty and Brown at the crease. The players did resume, but play was stopped early as further rain descended on the Corydon ground.

Surrey will hope for a rain free day two as they will want Harbhajan Singh, to make full use of the pitch on his Surrey debut.
