Twenty20 Round up

Here is a round up of the Surrey first three matches in the twenty20 cup. These are the games against Kent, Middlesex and Hampshire. Surry won the first two but suffered their first ever defeat in the group stages of the competition as the lost to Hampshire by 3 wickets.

Surrey Kent, Beckenham, Wednesday 22 June

Surrey opened their twenty20 account with a 7 wicket victory over Kent at Beckenham. James Benning hit 66 as the lions reached their target with 4 overs to spare. Earlier Nayan Doshie took 3 for 24 as the lions restricted Kent to 140 for 7.

Kent won the toss and decided to bat. They were soon in trouble as Mohammad Akram took the wickets for Stevens and Hall as the spitfires were reduced to 23 for 2. Key and Kemp and Walker all fell cheaply as Kent were plunged in to further trouble at 98 for 5. Walker was next to fall for 6 as he was caught by stand in captain Ali Brown, with Nayan Doshi claiming his first of three victims. When Van Jaarsveld fell for 51, Kent were 1111 7. However a useful 20 from Simon Cook helped the spitfires reach 140.

Openers Brown and Benning then came out and put on a useful stand of 68 for the opening wicket. Brown feel for 36 when was caught by Cook with Kemp the bowler. Thornely was next to go for 0, when he was caught behind by O’Brien with Kemp picking up his second wicket. However Benning continued to hit the Kent bowler round the park and he was finally dismissed for 66 from 37 balls by spinner Ferley. This left Clarke and Batty to guide the lions to a 7 wicket victory.
