Surrey loose at Hove

Surrey lost to Sussex by 5 wickets at Hove. After being bowled out for 254, with Rikki Clarke top scoring with 75, Sussex needed 154 to win. After being reduced to 32 for 4, Matt Prior hit 66 to guide the Sharks to victory.

Day one.

James Kirtley removed both openers to leave Surrey 7 for 2. Ramprakash and Clarke then started a recovery with a partnership of 88. Ramprakash top scored as he made 97, while Azhar Mahmood scored 58 as Surrey reached 248 all out.

Sussex made a good start as openers Montgomerie and Hopkinson put on 67 for the first wicket. Hopkinson was first to go as he was trapped leg before wicket to Doshi. Montgomerie fell just before the close of play to Doshi for 68.

Day two

Nights watchman James Kirtley was first to go for a duck. Mahmood took the wickets of Goodwin, Adams and Prior to leave the Sharks 180 for 6. Yardy and Martin Jenkins then added 100. Jade Dernbach claimed his first, first class wicket as he removed Yardy for 65. Martin Jenkins top scored as he made 88. His score helped Sussex reach 378 all out, giving them a first innings lead of 130.

Surrey reached 54 for no wicket at the close with Newman 46 not out. .

Day three.

Surrey resumed on 54 for no wicket with Newman and Clinton at the crease. Clinton became the first batsman to fall as he was caught by Wright with Kirtley the bowler. Newman had scored 74 when he was fell leg before wicket to Naved-ul-Hasan, his first of four wickets. Rikki Clarke top scored for Surrey with 75 and Azhar continued an impressive match with 41. However Surrey lost 4 wickets for 70 runs as they were bowled out for 254. .

This set Sussex 154 to win. Surrey needed get early wickets and they did this as Sussex were reduced to 32 for 4, with Azhar Mahmood taking two wickets. However a fifth wicket stand of 83 between Yardy and Prior led the sharks to victory. Yardy fell just before the end as he was trapped leg before wicket to Akram for 35, but Prior saw Sussex home with 66 not out. This innings came of just 48 balls and included 10 fours and two sixes. .
