Surrey claimed their first victory of the new season as they defeated Leicestershire by 99 runs in the Liverpool and Victoria County Championship division two at the Brit Oval. Jimmy Ormond and Rikki Clarke both took two wickets as Leicestershire were bowled out for 314.

Day three

Surrey had a good start to their innings as Butcher and Batty put on 113 for the first wicket. Batty made 41, while Newman hit 75. With the score at 156 for 2, Mark Ramprakash was dismissed for 22. This sparked a batting collapse as Surrey fell to 187 for 7.

However captain Mark Butcher, continued his good form from the first innings as he top scored with 85 not out. Tim Murtagh 37 not out offend him support in an unbroken stand of 100.

Leicestershire reached 74 for 1 at the close with Maddy 18 and Ackerman the not out batsman.

Day Four

The first wicket to fall was Ackerman for 55 as he was bowled by Azhar Mahmood. Mongia and Maunders both fell cheaply to leave the foxes 158 for 4. Maddy and Snape added 76 for the fifth wicket. When Maddy fell for 97, the Leicestershire challenge was finished as Surrey wrapped up an easy victory with Ian Salisbury.
