Surrey beat Kent by 1 run in a thrilling C and G group match at Canterbury as the brown caps claimed their first victory in the competition.

Rain delayed the start, which meant the game was reduced to 30 overs per side. After Benning fell early on, Batty and Butcher added 96 for the second wicket. Ali Brown boosted the Surrey total with 64 from just 43 balls as Surrey reached 223 for 5.

Kent had a blistering start to their innings as Darren Stevens and Neil Dexter put on 138 for the first wicket. Dexter and Walker then put on 49 as they looked to have secured victory for Kent. However the Kent batting collapsed form 187 for 1 to 188 for 5, as Jade Dernbach and Ian Salisbury both picked up wickets. When Rob Key was caught and bowled by Salisbury for 1, Kent were 209 for 6 and a close finish was in stall. With 4 needed of the last ball, James Tredwell could only manage 2, giving Surrey a 1 run victory in a thrilling finish. Ian Salisbury took 3 for 28 while Jade Dernbach took 3 for 44.
