Surrey progress hit by Wood

Matt Wood hit 92 as Somerset beat Surrey by 26 runs at The Brit Oval in the C and G trophy. Somerset made 279 for 5, with Arul Suppiah also contributing well with 63. He then took 4 wickets as Surrey were bowled out for 253.

Somerset had a good start to the innings with Gazzard and Wood putting on 46 for the first wicket in quick time. Wood and Suppiah then dominated the Surrey bowling attack in a partnership of 100. Wood was unlucky not to reach three figures as he was run out for 92. Suppiah then shared in a stand of 69 with White (47). Jade Dernbach took two late wickets as Somerset made 279 for 5 from 50 overs.

Surrey had a poor start as Batty fell early on for 5. Benning and Butcher took the score to 57. Ramprakash and Brown then added 65, with Brown making 48 from 40 balls. Ramprakash was the joined by Clarke and they looked to have set up a close finish. However Ramprakash fell for 56 to White while Mahmood could only last three balls. This left Surrey 212 for 6. When Clarke was bowled by Suppiah for 37, who took 4 for 39, the Surrey challenge had finished. They were bowled out for 253, with Nayan Doshi the last man out.
