Former Surrey batsman Michael Carberry hit 88 as Hampshire defeated Surrey by eight wickets at Whitgift School. Surrey could only make 166 all out as Shane Warne ripped through the brown caps batting line up with 6 for 42.

Surrey started badly as they were reduced to 37 for 3. Butcher and Batty added 83 as they took the score to 120 for 3. When Batty fell for 35 he became Warne’s first of six victims, as he single-handedly destroyed the Surrey batting line up. The only resistance came from Butcher who made 77.

Hampshire never looked on danger of defeat as former Surrey batsman Michael Carberry hit 88 from just 84 balls, which included nine fours and sis sixes. He added 127 for the first wicket with John Crawley who made 49. Both men fell to Doshi, so it was left to Sean Ervine, who hit 22 not out, to lead Hampshire home as the hawks reached their target from just 26 overs.
