2010 LVCC table predictions

And 2010 will be?

By Barmy Kev
March 25 2010

Sure signs spring is in air the nights are longer, the flowers are blooming and Barmy Kev submits the league table predictions competition. Last years winner Hippity is still in hibernation but will be surely back soon to claim his miniscule prize. Meanwhile feel free to predict away and submit any you spot from other publications.

Jeff.

I hope you are well.

I have seen your predictions.Personally speaking, and I dont know about anyone else, for that team to finish top, and us third would be awful beyond words.

I worry because you know your cricket.

Hi LP, cannot disagree with your sentiments but have to let my head call it over my heart. If only to get my hands on one of those minuscule prizes.

I also have the feeling mentioned in other treads that a top 2 finish in div 2 this year will not count for much and will have little or no bearing as to which dreaded conference we are in in 2011.

Look forward to seeing you at Lord's soon or maybe Radlett next Wednesday if the weather improves.

I don't want to unduly alarm people, but I read as recently as in this morning's Times that plans for the conference system to be launched as soon as 2011 are 'possible' and 'back on the agenda', and I read on Wednesday that the issue will be discussed once it is known who the next chairman of the ECB cricket committee will be, probably in May. It was only today when the Poll: Pole Position thread was started that I put two and two together and thought to myself that in the event of the conference system starting in 2011 then 2010's performances may become irrelevant.

Should a conference system eventually come in, I really hope the previous season's performances are taken into account in decided who plays and doesn't play who and who is and isn't in each group. When the one-day league became two-divisional in 1999 and the County Championship followed suit in 2000, the previous season's tables were sensibly taken into account as the top nine teams formed the following season's division one and the bottom nine formed the following season's division two. However, I was very disappointed when the 2009 Pro40 tables were totally ignored when deciding on the the groups for the 2010 Clydesdale Bank 40 League, which was instead decided by putting the names of all 18 counties plus Netherlands, Scotland and the Unicorns (the official name of the team which was provisionally called Recreational XI) into a hat and performing an open draw.

I would like a way to be found where the performances in the season before the conference system coming into force (if it happens at all) are taken in account instead of being totally in vain. Maybe the top six teams from division one can go in one conference, the bottom three in division one plus the top three in division two being in another conference and the bottom six in division two being in the other conference.

I will be happy with anything but an open draw.

I need to find a time which I can devote to thinking about my predictions for the 2010 County Championship tables.

I also have a strong idea that this year's Div 2 championship will be a pointless exercise (not literally!).

I sincerely hope not and that IF we have to have conferences they are not yet again regionally based. It was really refreshing to se Durham at uxbridge in 2008, simply because they weren't one of the usual suspects.

Perhaps seeding the conferences would be better.

I'm awake (just about) and I've sent in my submission for Uncle Gatt's game as well.

I must say that the thought of bunny girls is a bit more enticing to me than cricket at this time of year, so I might not be around much for the first few weeks of the seaosn, but here we go with the game.

Right, time to chill out and give you all a laugh, cos somehow all the teams seem pretty much the same this year.

I have decided this year I like the Glos bowling attack, irrespective of fitness or the fact that the team can't bat. So I'm putting them top of Div 2. They won't finish there.... but that increases the Middle's chances.

Finishing in the top 2 might not mean what it has meant recently - but remember there are several formats that could be used when a change is decided on - there is still a 2 div variant in the mix - one where the least good clubs play less in a 2nd division - so aiming for the top 2 is still very much what any teams need to do.
