No Goodwill from Goodwin - Somerset/Sussex CC1

SUSSEX CC1 @ HOVE 24 APRIL 2002

DAY ONE

DAY TWO

DAY THREE

DAY FOUR

The Championship starts on the sunny South coast with Sussex as the hosts.  After a hammering from Surrey last week they might be ripe for the picking or ready to get some payback from us!!

It would have been a good day except for some bloke called Murray Goodwin!   He smashed a few last year and seems to have taken a shine to our seamers.   162 off 168 balls with 26 fours and 2 sixes and all that out of a total of 337.   Very few others kept up with him but who in Sussex cares when this guy is in this form.

It wasn't all nasty opponents smacking poor heroic Somerset bowlers everywhere.  Matt Bulbeck totally flummuxed the answer to England's ODI problems (in his opinion anyway) - Chris Adams for 8 and took 4 for 104 (helping my prediction league chances) but the figures of the day came from 'occasional' bowler Mike Burns with 3 for 54 in 13 and a bit.  I thought he'd given up bowling!  Johnson took 2 and Jonah got one.  Keith Dutch contained in his 12 overs, going for less than 2 an over - good to see this early in the season.

At the end they reached 337 all out and we got to the end of the day with 4 on the board and no-one out.  Day 2 has to be a big batting day and if we want to win this one, we need big scores and good weather...oh yes and Goodwin out for not a lot in the second innings!
