From Home to Hove, Home and Away

Our source for info
By Barmy Kev and Diamond June 25 2008
With no reporter at the night night game it was down to Barmy Kev and Diamond to do it via the BBC London internet commentary of Kevin Hand which is an excellent service provided by the Beeb at no cost to supporters and they are to be commended for it.

 Ist Innings- By Barmy Kev

Middx v Kent was on BBC icon for commentary, but was able to click on it to get commentary for tonight’s game away to Sussex.

Thought I’d be fully focussed on Internet commentary, but match started just as thrilling finish at England v Kiwi’s was reaching climax.  Couldn’t ignore that and post match interviews especially regarding that controversial run out.

However, I caught on commentary that we were fielding a much weakened side, perhaps with one eye on Sunday having already qualified. Kevin Hand announced there was no e-mail facility at Hove (perhaps down to the fact I promised him at Uxbridge he was going to be inundated by me). This could have also scuppered Derek’s plan on sending tactical e-mails for wickets.

He was able to confirm, obviously read MTWD analysis we were definitely through.   Vinny was first to join him in box. He confirmed no decision made on potential "home" ¼ final, but Hoval a strong consideration, having player's  views considered and seemed to be preferred option.  Looks like a case of Home and Away.

Then Diggler took over in box.  His hip injury not as serious as first thought but unlikely to be fit for Sunday, but will be back soon- I guess the standard 2 weeks.

E mail appeared to be back and my pre match e-mail was marginally read confirming our qualification, having plagiarised Banjo’s analysis.  Given spinners on a very quick summary was read.

Then Ged asked Dirk about his musical abilities with saxophone and enquiring whether he was now "Middlesax".

Derek missed early comments on Dirk’s fitness and asked about this and the e-mail connection being up.  Kev H confirmed injury as above and all e-mails were read on his phone, so “keep them short”.  Derek made some reference to our new hero “ Gonfora”  (Burton)

The Becks game was discussed and agreed a farce.

Ged again, mentioned about Dirk’s golfing and asking him to "tee off".

TSO came into box and earned us 2 wickets in no time. Yes there was a game on.  He indicated that he was resting ankle and should be OK Sun.

I sent e mail asking about TSO no ball problem

Derek e-mailed referring to TSO as “ The Special One”.  Commentary team was not sure if this was referring to Mourinho or Nannes.  Basically Derek, telling him TSO to keep fit.

At this stage towards end of innings Kev H says he has lot of e mails to get through.  Ged asked (obviously missed earlier one) again about Hoval as venue. Players were in favour of it, by sound of it.

Another question to TSO starting saying that Billy Kid favourite player then changing to Captain Morgan.

And before I knew it,  152 was our target and my noble e mail not answered.

Second half notes- By Diamond.

Oh my head hurts.

Having dined on a Tesco Chinese and a bottle of Aussie red these notes might be a little short.

At the start of our innings my brother decided to phone me and tell me Surrey had won , stuff I already knew from Kevin Hand on line and via the Internet score service , these folk in Oxfordshire really need  to wake up to the 21st century.

No sooner did I get rid of him off the phone and open the patio door (well hot in here tonight) than I got jumped on by one of my cats. 34-0 off 3 overs, suitably unimpressed he jumped off leaving me free to concentrate on the game and half a bottle of red. Billy the kid by this time was on fire  Dropped when the score was 63-0 with the estate agent on a mere 15. 65-1 “For Sale”“gone while I was having a smoke in the garden, I really must give them up at least while Middlesex are batting.

Typhoon in to pinch hit. Kev announces Middlesex 65-7 which prompts a swift e-mail!

Good plug for the site by Ged around this time. 84-1 off 10 overs. 101-2 with Hendo gone followed by Billy for a grand 69. Captain Morgan fails again and the e-mails are flying in, remembering Kev only has his phone as a link he is doing really well.

Prize part of our innings on the internet was TSO admitting the run out incident was a “village cricket mistake” but he did qualify this by saying he was not sure of his position before trying to throw down the stumps. Fair play to the guy.

Interuption from Barmy Kev. TSO back in commentary box.  So I resent e mail about no balls

Towards the end Kev got well confused with the score and the no balls and wides the Sussex “attack” were dishing up didn’t help. Middlesex won by 6 wickets and normal service from this reporter will be resumed during the Uxbridge festival.

You want the scores  get them off the net or ceefax , tonight was more about the win than  the way it was won . Well done the boys and bring on the sorry Surrey. Can we give you a good kicking and then borrow your ground for the quarter finals?

PS , A mere aside ,Billy Taylor who reads my brothers meter during the winter went for 3 runs off of his final over making sure that game finished in a draw and we won the group . Up the Lecky Board I say.

PS from Barmy Kev. As winning runs about to be scored TSO was asked about no ball problem and no time to be answered properly. Also my email ignored stating Beer's better analysis this time proves that Beer cheaper at Hove than Lords

BUT WHO CARES.  TOP OF THE LEAGUE WE'RE AVIN A LARF, TOP OF THE LEAGUE WE'RE AVIN A LARF.
