Kimmy sees the tip off the Ice Berg

Maiden Ton

On a freezing cold day as Kimmy is freezing , the Ice Man manages to give her a warm feeling inside. The follwowing report is sponsored by Tescos, Pringles and eBay!!!

Well.... Where to start? What a day!!
I LOVE being a Middx fan!
So.... I arrive nice and early, things to sort out and decide as it's freezing cold I'll grab a coffee in the Middlesex room and see what's what....
I have a quick chat with Janet and whilst doing so see Lorraine who says that Dawid Malan is to receive his county cab on the out field, but it's a big surprise!
Janet and I get our cameras ready and as the bell rings out come the players.... And AC is presented with his cap. It's a lovely surprise for him and well deserved I think....
Many congratulations AC..... Not known at the time but it's the first of many celebrations today!
So I wander back in and get a coffee and take my seat in the lower Allen stand, outside..... I know it's warmer inside but you just cant hear the noises inside, it's just not the same...

So with the magic of technology I manage to post about AC on the web site good these phones aren't they?
So... onto the game.... Derby started the Day 190 for 9. Footitt was injured last night, but comes out to bat today.... He even manages to hit his team mate with the ball!
(I think... was busy posting at the time!) But they carry on, not for much longer though as they are all out for 196..... Surely we can do better than this?

So... out comes our openers.... Strauss and Newman (in case you weren't sure!!?) We keep inviting them to the party but for some reason they leave early? Dunno why... maybe their mum tells them off,
or doesn't like the company they keep? All the same, c'mon guys.... lets see if today is the day..?
So... in the time it took me to write that last bit Newman is out to a first ball duck...... Oh well.... Next time Scotty... Hey! I know... you're saving yourself for Monday aren't you? You know at the gas works!
Okay... so not to worry.... Shah's in.... However I think their no. 12 Groenwald is in my fantasy team, so it's a bit of a bitter sweet moment.... (having now checked he is....)
And great Strauss is up and running... c'mon!

Note to self.... When you get home check eBay for hand warmers!!! (have done, very cheap.... bought them, hope they arrive in time for Sunday!)
Well... things are moving along a bit slowly, but we've not lost anymore wickets yet.... And it wasn't the kiss of death coz just as I write that Strauss gets a boundary... doubles his score to 8!!

So... on the way to Lord I stopped at Tescos and bought a nice healthy salad.... Hmmm... what I need for lunch is soup.... Wonder where they sell it..?
Boy it's freezing.... is it lunchtime yet? Anything for a bit of warmth.... It's really hard to write with gloves on but as a trusty reporter I'll just keep going... Brr!!
Oh no and now Strauss is bowled by that bloke again... (how many points do I get?) for 13... obviously unlucky for him.... still it's warmer in the pavilion!
So AC comes in, hope his county cap helps him to score afew runs....
Looking around the Allen stand as the wickets fall there seems to be more Derby fans than Middx..... After the Sussex fans were so rude, I'm a little worried to be honest, but Janet is near to me, so I'll let her sort them out!
To my left are 3 Derby fans.... A couple and a male for the past 20 minutes they have been discussing their favourite food... The lone male keeps saying 'pringles' I'm going to laugh out loud in a minute....
I think I might throw in Liver and onions just for the hell of it!!
So there's a bit of a cock up by the Derby players that give us a boundary... ha ha ha...

Well we've marched (!) on to 38 for 2..... sometimes it's a bit slow the county game.... but you would have thought that the players would want to run about a bit.... it really is bitter today...
Well I think it might be time to head in doors to the warmth and a coffee, besides the Derby food fans are boring me!!!
What the F!! Shah really doesn't like running does he? What should have been an easy 2 nearly turned into a run out if it wasn't for AC running like mad between the wickets... Mmmm I think 'things' might be said at lunchtime...
Oh hello AC is taking his clothes off!!! He can't be hot can he??! WOW!!! he must be!
So... the 50 is up for us... well done to ACE and AC keep running... it'll keep you warm!!
I was just thinking that SHAH looks a bit funny as he waits for the ball... and that's it, he's out for 21! We're now 56 for 3 with 10 minutes till lunch.... Out comes Dex... C'mon Dex let's have another innings like Sussex!
AC gets another boundary , dare I say he seems to be hitting the ball well.... yep he ducks well as the next ball sails over his head!
Dex is yet to score, but there's time...
At lunch we are 61 for 3...
Lower Pavilion wander to St John's Wood High Street to find some soup... Lovely tomato and basil... but £6!!!!!! For a take away!! Good Grief!!
So.... I get back from lunch a little late and sit down to eat my soup and we are 99 for 3....
Ace comes into the Middx Room with his family... what a nice touch....He seems happy to be amongst us.
And the 100 is up! WOOHOO!! (in fact with the boundary it's 101, but who's counting!)
Having finished my soup I feel the need to nip to the loo... right at the wrong time.... Dunno what happened to AC but he's out... oh no! But 37 is better than nothing I guess...
I decide to sit in the cold again and wander round to the lower mound stand to get a side view...
Simpson's in.... and then out Wonder if it's anything to do with the short sleeved shirt he's wearing? It must be warmer down on the field, but Brr!!
And then the iceman cometh.... we're on 126.... not great I have to say...... Alarm bells are ringing a bit, but Dex is playing well and maybe the iceman can knock the ball about a bit?
So... they are up and running with Dex on 49 the total is now 148....
Berg gets 1 to give Dex the strike.... Stay calm.... don't take any chances... be cool.... BE COOL!!! what am I saying? It's still freezing.....
OMG!! and LBW shout... yeah shut up... load of rubbish! Maybe we've got a bit of luck today I think my heart actually stopped beating for a second or two then!
Berg gets 2 to bring the 150 up and then whacks the ball for 4!
But hold on it's that bowler again.... Oh dear!
Dex is on strike... cool Dex cool!! YAY!!! he gets his 50! I'm so pleased, well done my man!! well.... when I say my man... I don't mean MY MAN, I mean... well you know....
Lower Pavilion joins me complaining that it's too hot in the long room!!!! Too hot!!
He says (and i quote) "I'm quite positive were going to win this game..... well reasonable...."
Dex and Berg are certainly striking the ball well today.. but it's tea and I always worry about the breaks....
But I need not have worried, Dex is on 75 and Berg 43.... both nearing land marks... and the total is 216 for 5.....
LP is saying that he thinks Berg balances the team, he's a bowler who can bat.... a true all rounder.... I say he's just lovely! There's a silence and LP says.... that he was talking about the cricket!!!
YAY and a cheeky chip brings up the 100 partnership, they really are playing well.....
Berg's on 49,.... keep your cool... WOOHOO!!!!! get's his 50.... I just have this feeling about today....
The 250 is up and Berg hits a 6.... followed by another one!!! WOOHOO!!!! I'm so exciting!!! This is just brilliant! I could kiss him.... luckily LP stops me running on the field!
And good to see the planes flying over head.... lets hope they keep doing so for those going to Holland!

And another 6 from Berg.... he is on fire! (maybe that's what's keeping him warm!!)
OMG! Dex is on 93 and Berg on 84... LP says that 2 middx players approaching 100 runs is as rare as hens teeth!!
150 partnership up, well done the middle... (well Dex and Berg anyway!)
And Dex gets his 100 We Whoop and clap and he waves to us.... Well done Dex!!! What a great innings!

NEWSFLASH!!!
LP and Kimmy embarrass as the Iceman gets his maiden ton!!! I'm so proud! I get to not only watch him get it, but I get to be the reporter too!!! Well done Gareth I knew you would do it!!!
The 200 partnership is quickly up and then Dex is out on 112.... It's such a shame he was doing so well.... You should be proud of yourself Neil.... Very, very proud!

OH NO!!! It's all going abit wrong now... Berg is out for 125.... Now I am disappointed... for you, it was a fantastic knock, you see you can get your 100 and go beyond it! What a fantastic innings you had! A pleasure to watch!!
(stop it you lot!!! I'm trying to be professional!!!!)
Then Shaun comes in.... and out again... to be honest the rest of the game is a bit of blur.... I'm just so happy for the iceman.... so cold, but so happy!!

It's down to the Tim and Finn show.... We know they can hit the ball a bit, but I dunno.... maybe we'll declare first thing and let them get straight into the bowling.... Same them the worry of batting....
So at stumps it's 366 for 9 a lead of 170 and SEVEN points!!! WOOHOO!!

So as I wander back to the station a very tired, cold but estactic kimmy reflects on a wonderful Middlesex innings.........

THE END!!!

Phew!

Hanging about for autographs I got to congratulate the relevent 'boys'.

Berg and Dexter even shook hands with everyone who was there.

I can confirm how cold it was I wore two fleeces and my winter coat and was still cold. I'd got so cold that even on the bus I was cold in those layers of clothes

Kimmy,a great report.

I would say that, wouldnt I.

Seriously, you caught the mood of the day very well.

A freezing cold day, but for all the brave middlesex fans who were there,I am sure they felt it was well worth going.

Well done Kimmy , beyond the call od duty writing in the cold.

A least your lunch didn't see you miss the end of an innings and two Middlesex wickets as mine did when we played the Welsh .

I hope you remember the handwarmer for Sunday , looks like you should be able to rent it out , probably make back what it cost you in an afternoon .

It is very rare that when Middlesex are batting, the scoreboard shows that:

• Both of the batsmen at the crease have scored centuries
• The partnership is 182 not out
• The lead is 112 and with five wickets still remaining for us to make it even more imposing
• We have 308 runs on the board with five wickets in hand
• We lead our opponents 6-1 on bonus points

Lets hope that there are many more occasions of the scoreboard saying something similar while we are batting!
