Broad Shines on Ashes Opening Day

Stuart Broad stuck two fingers up the Aussie press, who have been given him a hard time in Brisbane, by taking five wickets on the opening day of the winter Ashes series, including the first four to fall in an exciting period.....

Australia at one point were 132-6 and in real danger of leaving eggs on their faces after winning the toss in soaring heat out in Brisbane.

However, a stand of 114 between keeper Brad Haddin (78no) and Mitchell Johnson (64) meant Australia were able to close on 273-8, but no denying it was England's and in particular Broad's day as the Notts seamer finished with figures of 5-65 from his 20 overs.

First Ashes Test, Brisbane (day one): Australia 273-8
