England v South Africa - 1st Test Scorecard

England were to suffer an innings defeat in the opening test match at the Kia Oval, as South Africa posted all sorts of records, most notably batsman Hashim Amla becoming the first South African to post a triple century. The match also saw England take just two wickets, whilst the visitors managed to take all 20 of England's to take an early series lead....

Thursday 19th July 2012 - Kia Oval - London

South Africa beat England by an innings and 12 runs

England won the toss and decided to bat

England 1st Innings 385 all out (125.5 overs)

South Africa 1st Innings 637 for 2 (189.0 overs) 

England 2nd Innings 240 all out (97.0 overs)

England: Strauss (C), Cook, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Bopara, Prior (W), Bresnan, Swann, Broad, Anderson

South Africa: Smith (C), Petersen, Amla, Kallis, de Villiers (W), Rudolph, Duminy, Philander, Steyn, M Morkel, Tahir
