India 521-8dec in 1st Innings

India pile on the runs in the opening test match with England in Ahmedabad, scoring 521-8 before declaring towards the end of day 2......

Cheteshwar Pujara (206no) and Virender Sehwag (117) toremented the England bowlers, as the home batsmen made the most of winning the toss on a flat surface to put the visitors under severe pressure in the opening test match out of four to be played.

England had gone into the match, with Graeme Swann as the specialist spinner, with left armer Samit Patel as back up, and it was Swann that made the decision to play three seamers, look strange, by taking five wickets, and overtaking Jim Laker, to become England's most succesful off spinner.

Swann finished with 5-144 from a marathan 51 overs, whilst only James Anderson from the fast bowling department, took a wicket, as England tolied in the field for 160 overs.

It left the England batsmen facing a trial by spin to try and save the test match.

India: Sehwag, Gambhir, Pujara, Tendulkar, Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Dhoni (C/W), Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Yadav, Ojha

England: Cook (C), Compton, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Patel, Prior (W), Broad, Bresnan, Swann, Anderson
