It is an image that will be displayed for years to come, as England's cricketers celebrate winning the opening Ashes test match, at Trent Bridge, by the narrow margin of just 14 runs, in a quite amazing finish to the first test of ten back to back test matches....

With some 80 runs still to win, and to chase down 311 to win, the last pair of James Pattinson and Brad Haddin came together with little to lose.

However, with a superb knock from the experienced Haddin, well supported by Pattinson, Australia started about chipping away to gain an unlikely win.

With a sell out crowd on the edge of their seats either side of lunch, the runs needed became smaller and smaller.

James Anderson had taken the three wickets to fall in the morning, with Alastair Cook taking all three catches at slip, but England's premier bowler was forced off the field with cramp just before lunch.

Thankfully the break gave him chance to resolve the issue and return to take the final wicket of Haddin, but not before England had to review in order to get the decision overturned.

It was the slightest of edges from Haddin's bat that fell into the hands of Matt Prior, but it was enough to spark the scenes of joy from players and fans alike.
