England v West Indies - 1st Test - LORD'S

Steve Finn at Practice

England go into the opening test match of the summer against the West Indies, determined to still be holding on their number 1 ranking tag, come the end of August, when South Africa would have also tried to beat the hosts in their back yard....

With six test matches ahead of them, England knew a good start against the West Indies at Lord's, will hold them in good stead when South Africa come and try to wrestle the title of top test team, from them.

It promises to be an excellent summer of cricket, given South Africa are number 2 in the test rankings presently. Even more criminal then, that there is only three test matches against them! Instead we have to put up with a ridiculous five match ODI series with Australia!

But, that is all for later, and given the hideous cold conditions around the country at the moment, it must mean the start of the International season at home, with the West Indies at Lord's being the opening bout, best wrap up warm up boys!

Most of the focus for the three match series, will be on England captain Andrew Strauss, and his poor form with the bat, which has led to questions over his role in the side.

A quick fire opening hundred will put all those doubts to bed for the summer, and England are expected to play with six batsmen, and four bowlers, with Tim Bresnan getting the nod over Steve Finn.

Probable Team: Strauss (C), Cook, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Bairstow, Prior (WKT), Bresnan, Broad, Swann, Anderson

Jonnny Bairstow will gain his first test cap for England, with Ravi Bopara ruled out through injury, come on England!

First Test: England v West Indies Venue: Lord's Date: 17-21 May
