In a three nation tournament there can be only one side that has two wins and today, in the third game the two undfeated sides meet in Muscat to dcide who the 'one' is. Both these international sides have beaten Canadaover the weekend and meet today to get the upper hand for the second part of the contest. Nepal have won the toss and will bat first
CWC Tri-Tournament Oman v Nepal @ Al Amerat Oman Tuesday 13 October 2026
The undefeated sides in this event meet to decide who has the upper hand with Nepal winning the toss and deciding to bat first. Oman are presently in 4th place in CWC League 2 while their visitors have moved above Canada to 6th with their win on Saturday. Both Nepal and Canada will finish their efforts in the league with this tournament while the hosts will still have games in hand at the end of next week.
The Omani side for this game is;
Nepal won the toss and chose to bat first so Aasif Sheikh and Arjun Kumal will start in the middle facing Shah Faisal and Shakeel Ahmed (Ahmad? Again 2 different spellings on the one website). Kumal takes a single from the first over and they have 5 by the end of the second against the first over of spi. The first boundary does not arrive until the first ball of the third as Kumal drives Ahmed through the covers on the onside.
After 5 the batting side have moved on to 16 wuthout loss with Kumal doing most of the work though Faisal is close to taking a wicket with an absolute jaffa at the end of the 4th. They only add 1 run in the 6th before the same bowler does elict an outside edge from the bat of Sheikh and although it flies towards the boundary, it lands in the hands of Jay Odedra and the Nepalese opener is on his way back for 4 from 15 and is replaced by Ishan Pandy.
After 10 overs the new pair have reset the innings and moved the score on to 33 for 1 with Pandy on 7 from 15 and Kumal in the lead role with 20 from 30. After 8 Oman changed their bowling partnership with Jay Odedra replacing Ahmed while new man for this match Karan Sonaval and Hassnain Shah are both started at the Academy end after the seam of Faisal early on.
The Nepal 50 arrives in the 13th over from a Pandy single which sees both bats on 22. However, early progress is moderately slow as the Omani attack holds Nepalese pair and the score has only moved on to 56 by the end of the 15th over.
Kumal and Pandy's 50 partnership arrives at 67 for 1 and by the 20th over they have moved on to 76 for 1 without any further loss. Both bats are in the 30s with Kumal having moved on to 37 from 53 while his partner has 33 from 52. The Omani bowling has been pretty tight at about 4.5 runs an over with the standout being the initial 4 over spell from Faisal which provided the first wicket for only 9 runs.
The Nepal 2nd wicket partnership is broken at the end of the 21st when Sonaval gets a little more bounce and goes througgh the defence of Pandy who is bowled for 37 from 55 with 4 fours and Nepal are 81 for 2 as their hero of the last match Rohit Paudel comes to the crease.
Ahmed is brought back for the 22nd and strikes early on that return as Kumal is LBW for 40 from 59 at 83 for 3 bringing Basir Ahamad to the middle as the number 5 in the Nepalese batting order. The halfway point in the innings sees the new pair having added tothe score and it is 89 for 3 after 29 overs with quite a lotto be done in the second half of this game for the visitors to set a competitive target for the Oman batters to have a go at.
The Nepal 100 arrives as an Ahamad cut is misfielded square and goes through to the rope in the 27th over from Sonavale. That takes the bat to 7 from 15 while his partner Paudel has moved to 10 from the 16 he has faced.
After the 30th, a 250 plus score is still looking a long way away as Hussnain Shah finishes his 5th with 0 for 20 and Nepal have 110 for 3 to their name. The Nepalese fans are starting to make some noise as their batting pair in the middle seem to have decided to push the scoring opportunities and get the board total moving a little quicker. There hasn't been a six yet in this game (the Muscat boundariesare pretty big most of the time) but it looks like the bats are looking to change that.
The Nepalese intent prompts a response from the Omani skipper Shukla who recalls Shah Faisal to the attack for his second spell. The interactions get a little 'spicier' after this as we move towards the 35th which will be Odedra's last. A four from Ahamad from the second ball brings up the 50 partnership at 134 for 3. Jay finishes his 10 over spell with 0 for 47 and Nepal have progressed to 136 for 3 with 15 to go. The acceleration will continue one would imagine as we move closer to the pressure of the last 10 overs
Paudel produces the first six of the innings with a full blooded shot off Sonavale to the Academy dressing room boundaries in the 37th over and a single the next ball brings up the Nepal 150 for 3. As the push comes one would expect thenext man in to be Gulshan Jha but looking at the teamsheet he has been replaced with Sundeep Jora so the push on may have to come from someone else - probably Singh Airee who may well be the next man in if Paudel goes before he reaches 50.
He moves to 49 at the end of the 39th but before he can gho any further, his partner Ahamad is caught behind off the first ball of the 40th from Sonavale as afeather of an edge while trying to cut ends up in the skipper's gloves and Nepal are and Ahamad goes back to the dressing rom with 37 from 49 balls.
The next man in is Airee and after he gets off the mark Paudel takes a single to reach his 50 at 171 for 4. The half ton came in 58 balls with 2 fours and that six. But the job isn't over as they have 10 overs to get this score somewhere over 250. Rohit brings out the ramp in the 42ndagainst Faisal to show that the bats are aware they need to get on with things.
As Ahmed comes on for his last, Airee also takes him on and is gifted with four overthrows as he takes a quick single and there is a misfield on the return. However, Ahmed comes back next ball and has Paudel caught behind by Shukla standing up and taking the edge. Rohit goes for 61 from 67 just when Nepal needed him to push on and his side are 191 for 5in the 43rd. Ahmed finishes with 2 for 50 from his 10 and his second wicket may be a vital one in the context of the game and Nepal's chase.
Jora is the new man in and when he has 2 runs, two from Airee takes Nepal to 201 past that next target figure. Now 250 is the next one to work towards with 5 and a half overs left and about 10 runs an over needed. Oman then produce a strange decision as they bring Mujabar Ali on for his first over in the 45th of the innings. Not sure what the plan is here but he does his job and adds a very tidy over for 7. It might have been to allow Faisal to change ends as he then takes the 46th.
The Omani seamer bounces Dipendra who takes it on but simply guides it into the hands of the keeper and he departs for 22 from 17 at 213 for 6. That 250 is looking further and further away. It keeps moving away as well as Hussnain Shah adds to Nepalese misery as he finds the edge of Jora's bat with the first ball of the 47th. Shukla takes an excellent diving catch moving quiclly to an almost second slip position and the Nepal bat is walking back with 10 from 12 at 216 for 7. We have a new Nepalese pair at the crease as Karan KC is joined by Nandan Yadav with less than four ovars to go and the 250 34 runs away.
KC finishes the 47th with a sort of 'shovel' for four but the pair can do little with Faisal in thenext one as he goes for only 4 to register 2 for 33 from his excellent 9 overs today. Hassnain takes the penultimate as the last of his 10 and KC gets a considerable amount of his second ball, pinging it off the Academy roof for six. He adds twomore sixes off the next 2 balls and suddenly the 250 is a distince probablity at 247 for 6. Yadav confirms the 250 with a boundary off the last ball to move Nepal to 252 for 7 whilemaking amess of Hussnain's figures as his last goes for 25 and he finishes with 1 for 75 from his 10.
Faisal Shah finishes the innings with his last and KC gets the long handle out ot his second ballas wellsending it for six. The bowler comes back well and although the pair put on 47 they don't get to 50 as Yadav is run out off the last ball going for a desperate last run. He falls for 7 from 9 while KC is undfeated on 40 from 36 and the final score is 263 for 8 with Faisal finishing with a very good 2 for 44 from his 'sharp end' 10 overs.
Nepal have done well to get past 250 with that final spurt from KC. It's not a great score but I've seen themdefendatotallike this before and they didit against Canada on Sunday. it will be an interstingtest to seeif Oman have learned anything from last year when they were susceptable to sides that pressed them. A good overall bowling performance although Hussnain took some tap right at the end of the innings. They have done their job and now we look to seeif the Omani batting can put this one away. They need a solid performance from their front 5.
The Reply
Jatinder Singh and the batting line-up need 264 to take the points in this game. One has to say that this situation is very much in the Nepal field of expertise while Oman struggleat the start of these kinds of chases. A strong start is what the home side needs as Singh takes the first ball from Yadav. Wahab, straight off a 'Man of the Match' award from the last game, for his match winning 93, is at the other end. A wide and a single take the Omanis to 2 after the first.
Karan KC takes the second and Wahab gets an inside edge onto his stumps from a wide-ish delivery and it willnot be two sets of heroics in a row as he goes without scoring with the score on 2 for 1. Ali replaces him for the fifth ball of the second over. 3 for 1 after 2. It is then 6 for 2 after 3 as Yadav clean bowls Ali with the last ball of the third over. The ball swings in and the bat misses it so it clips the off stump. Ali goes for 2 from 6 and there is already an Omani problem developing as the front end struggles to deal with the Nepal seam bowlers.
Mirza arrives at the crease and KC bowls a maiden to tighten the grip. He has 1 for 1 from 2 and his bowling partner has 5 for 1 from his brace. Mirza finally gets hold of one and pulls Yadav for four to take his side to 10 for 2 after 5 overs.
Latit Rajbanshi brings spin to the attack with the 7th but the seamers continue toi cause the problems as in the 8th Misrza is given out LBW for 4 from 12 at 27 for 2 bringing new man Karan Sonavale to the frontline who misses a viscious inswinger that is luckily going down. Oman are really struggling here against some very aggressive medium pace bowling.
It looks like the Rajbanshi over was so the pace duo could swop ends as KC is back on for the 9th before Yadav closes the 'Powerplay' and nearly gets Sonavale as keeper Aasif Sheikh gets a glove to a guide down the offside but not enough of it to make it a catch. Oman stumble to 33 for 3 after 10 with Sonavale on 3 from 18 and Singh on 18 from 32.
Rajbanshi returns for the eleventh. Jatinder takes him on in the middle of the over and although it looks high wide and handsome, it is a little too high and doesn't have the legs. Karan KC gratefully takes an easy catch in frontof the Academy buildings and Oman slump to 33 for 4 with Singh out for a disappointing 18. Not sure whether that was a sensible shot to play given the contextof the game but the captainis now outin the middle to re-assess the innings from here but all one can say from the sidelines is that Oman have a mountain to climbif they are to win this one from here only 11 overs into a game!!
Captain Sandip Lamichhane brings himself on for the 12th and deepens the home side's depression as he a sends Sonavale on his way, bowling the Omani for 4 from 11 at 41 for 5. This innings is coming apart as in comes Zikaria Islam and then out goes the same man bowled with his first delivery and it is 41 for 6 with Oman still needing well over 200 with 6 wickets down!!
Jay Odedra is in with his boss and the new pair have to now be planning to bat for at least 35 overs no matter what is thrown at them or this game is over. A side that is well known for it's stroke-making bats has real problems 'buckling down' in an innings of attrition and just chunking out the runs. They either flow or they stutter, there seems to be no middle ground for this eleven!
Oman move to 50 with a typical shot in these games. In the 15th over the skipper Shukla gets a two from a poorly executed sweep shot which top edges over the keeper and into No Man's Land to take his side to 51 for 6. They have moved to 53 for 6 with 35 overs to go. The skipper has 17 from 15 while Odedra still is not off the mark from his 8 balls.
After 20 there is a little bit of resistance. Lamichhane has bowled 5 overs 12 for 2 but Odedra is off the mark with 9, Shukla has a run a ball 27 and the score has reached 73 for 6.
KC comes back for the 22nd with his 1 for 7 figures from 4 which become 1 for 7 from 5 after his maiden. The pressure is just not letting up. He is bowling with Ahamad who is also being employed to press the Omani bats in the 20 to 30 overs.
After a slight break at 25 overs, Airee is brought on for his first bowl with Oman on 87 for 6 with Shukla on to 34 from 39 while his partner Odedra has 16 from 44. They are below the 200 required mark but need 177 from 150 balls with 4 wickets in hand. Still a monumental task but still possible while these two continue tio work at it. Paudel bowls his first with the 27th and the batting pair pass a 50 partnership from 91 balls with 33 from Shukla and 18 from Odedra at 93 for 6. Straight after this with the first ball of the 28th, the Omani skipper is dropped going BIG in the deep by Kumal on the boundary, straight to him and then straight through him. It wasn't a hard catch but it was put down with Shukla on 40. He moves to an individual 50 in the same over as he gives Singh Airee a bit of a tanning including a swept four that takes him to 53 from 59 balls with 4 fours and a six.
The captain then brings up his side's 100 in the same over with a cut drive through the infield to the boundary by the end of it they have moved it along a bit to 114 for 6 needing a round 150 from 20 overs. They are presently scoring at under 4 an over and the RRR is at 7.5 so there is considerable work still to do to get anywhere near the vicinity of this total (which is not huge nowadays in a 50 over context).
Shukla gets away with another one as the innings resumes after drinks. He sends another one to the boundary without enough legs and Bashir Ahamad mistimes the dive and therefore doesn't get his hands fully behind the ball and it shoots out. 116 for 6 with the skipper on 56
Airee gets a little revenge in his next over as he sends Odedra back to the 'hutch' LBW for25 at 124 for 7 to bring Faisal to the crease. The 35th over ends with Oman halfway to the total at 134 for 7 needing another 130 to avoid defeat.
Dipendra Singh Airee takes the 38th and bowls Shah Faisal for 9 just before the 150 arrives. The bat steps inside and then feathers an outside edge onto his stumps. In comes Hassnain Shah to replace his team mate. But it is not the last one they lose at 148 because at the start of the next over bowled by Yadav, the captain wafts limply at a wide one he out to have left, gets a slight tickle and is caught behind for 77 from 83 balls with 6 fours and a six. He knows that is the end for his side I believe and he knows he lost focus for a second and did the wrong thing to end a real captain's innings. Cricket is a harsh mistress I'm afraid Vinayak!
148 for 9 brings Ahmed to the crease with niether member of the last pair with a run to their name as Yadav takes the 39th at 148 for 9. The pair survive a wicket maiden from Nandan and the score remains below 150 with 11 overs to go. Lamichhane takes the game to it's last 10 overs and the 150 finally arrives from an Ahmed single. Hussnain is on strike and a 'hoick' from his is easily pouched by Jora and the game is done with a victory margin to Nepal of 113 runs as Oman are skittled out for 150.
Depressing to see a side with such potential crumble time and again to pressure from the ball and tight fields. It happened last year against the 'terrier' sides like Nepal and those playing this game at a higher level in the T20 World Cup and it still seems to be a problem for sides who have stroke-makers but seem to lack workmanlike 'grafters' when they are needed. Nepal show once again that they stick to the task until the task is done and most of the time that worksfor them when they do it. They take the top spot in this present event and deny Oman points they would have really wanted to cement their place in the CWC League 2 positions.
