Man of the Match

Once again the weather defeats us when the opposition can't. A more balanced game but we were in the driving seat for most of this game? Would we have won it? Damn right!

SURREY CC1 @ THE OVAL 25 MAY 2002

DAY ONE

DAY TWO

DAY THREE

DAY FOUR

Frizzel fizzles out....

The only way there was going to be a result in this game was if Somerset managed to bowl out the home side for under 200 with enough time to get the runs.  So why were all the radio reports suggesting that WE were the ones hanging on against the great Surrey?  We were in this game all the way through and held the upper hand for most of the playing time...but we're still provincial to the powers that be and those who report their exploits.

The game was effectively over when we didn't capitalise on the end of Salisbury with the score on 91.  Ian Ward stayed too damn long and Ally Brown stayed with him.   By the time Dutchy got him at 174 and then Brown at 191, Surrey had the finishing line in their sights.  53 from Stewart, 44 from Tudor and 35 from Bicknell put it beyond us.  When we finally got to the crease, 300 in 20 overs wasn't really on and the game ended in a draw with us on 45.  BUT WE GOT MORE POINTS!!!

Matt Bulbeck and Andy Caddick shared the top wicket haul but the great bowling in the second innings came from that man Blackwell again.  15/8/19 for 3 were excellent figures and he took the honours with the bat.

We came here and didn't get beat.  We took away more points and ran the game for 60% of the time...that works for me!!  On to Scarborough and the Yorkshire Cricket Board!!
